How we met

We met while studying — business administration in Ingolstadt, shared lectures, long evenings, and at some point the realisation that an acquaintance had become a friendship.

After graduating, our paths first led in different directions. One went to South Africa, the other to Ireland. What remained were the conversations. About work, about style, about entrepreneurship — and about what one might create if one wanted to do it not quickly, but properly.

Today we both live in Munich. Locher & Landwehr grew from exactly that thought. Not as a quick idea, but as a deliberate attempt to create a piece that unites attitude, origin and craft.

The search for the workshop

It began with the wish for a polo belt that is more than a colourful accessory. A belt where you feel the leather, see the embroidery, and needn’t explain its origin because it shows in the making.

We examined various workshops, compared samples and discussed details that seem small at first glance but make the difference in the end. Width, leather thickness, buckle, thread, colour sequence and the feel in the hand all had to come together.

Through a personal polo connection we finally came upon a family-run workshop in Buenos Aires. Leather has been worked there since 1984 — for riders, for polo, for people who don’t just buy a good piece but use it.

Our belts are made there step by step. From carefully selected full-grain leather, with waxed Serafil thread and a solid brass buckle polished by hand. Their work speaks for itself.

The name

We could have named the brand differently. More abstract, more international, perhaps easier to pronounce. But an invented name would not have fit what we set out to build.

Locher & Landwehr stands for two people who put their name behind this project. For the choice of materials, for the form of the belts, and for the decision to make less, but to do it with care.

Whoever wears a Locher & Landwehr should know who stands behind it. Even years from now, when the leather has darkened, the buckle has gained depth, and the belt no longer looks new but personal.
